Kaspersky has published a report and states that companies have to re-evaluate their perception of DDOS-attacks. The scope of a DDOS attack and resulting damage is much larger than a temporary downtime of the company website. On average the cost of reparing after a DDOS attack is €40.000. For large companies this can add up to €390.000. Loss of data occures 3% to 4% of the time. DDOS often servers as a cover for an attempted breakin. over 20% of the victims reported that an attempt to break in to the system was done during the DDOS attack.
Countermeasures for the threat of a DDOS attack are ofter costly and complex. The limited means of SME’s makes this industry vulnerable to this form of cyberattack.
